"and exactly NO subscriptions to large language models, who can all go jump in a lake of zeros, ones and subatomic particles."

Haha. This made me giggle out loud!

Most will still regard this like a conspiracy, at this moment, but there has been a work at play for many decades, to incapacitate humanity (both physically and psychologically) so that they have no other option than to eventually merge with the machine.

Thank you Eric and Planet Waves team for keeping the crest of humanity alive! You along with some intelligent, caring and heroic others are, metaphorically, preservers of the Ark now!

I so enjoy your writing as if having a conversation with the reader. Perfect for a Sunday’s musing.

On the topic of literacy, I’ve been watching the old Cash Cab shows on the Roku Channel (trivia buff lunar Gemini here) and also found the original British version there. I was a bit shocked and dismayed at how much smarter the Brits were. I know the Gen X and Z, etc are dumber but holy cow! The Americans couldn’t answer the simplest questions about our culture while the Brits flew through them! I fear Idiocracy was actually too prescient to bear. I mean, we already had MMA rassling on the White House lawn!

yeah on whole brits are smarter, funnier, they read more...I mean...there are the blokes but I once had a conversation with a guy who worked on the Tube who saw me reading The Second Sex. And he tore down the theory of the book in one minute. This is some kind of train conductor talking to a commuter who was carrying a book. (That's when I was living in Jonathan Cainer's flat). This was not with some crude argument. He got right to the fatal flaw of the book's theory. When I came back to the book years later, and thought the thesis through with the help of an English professor friend, he was right.

personal response here concerning 'reading'--have always enjoyed reading and the diving in to the story, the novel, the powerful story being told and how amazing the author is with how they tell the story..and the thing is, lately, as in the past 6 months 'reading' has become some sort of 'taking me out of the life loop' feeling...like i am missing something somehow in Life by making the choice to read a book, to intentionally set aside and read a great novel...somehow i feel anxious somehow, someway...again, like I Am Missing Something Here by doing this action and choice of Reading A Book..and I Don't Know Exactly What That Is or Would Be (that I am Missing)..i don't get it at all but it really is creating a kind of anxiety or unease in some deepseated way.. Again, pretty recent change in the joy of reading, the joy of setting yourself 'aside' to discover another author's mastery of story and word. So, just wanted to try and express my peculiar state of mind currently. i think needing eyeglasses now is part of the issue but not totally. Anyway, thank you Eric for your powerful presence in all our lives. I figure AI has a separate file on your life and you actions and your society impact. And i guess i have some dread of AI World. Again, Thank You Eric and also for allowing me to try and flail away at my strange unwillingness going on with my desire to 'read'. It is just very very strange.

That's a lot of copies of Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man

When you see multiple copies of a book on my shelf, it can mean a few things. One is people send them to me; another is I pick up any extras that I see as gifts or for students (there are some books I've been through 20 copies of and am down to one); three is I'm collecting different editions, or had them in multiple locations and consolidated them; or one or more was retrieved from storage.

I figured as much. I also collect copies of favorite and important books when I find them and then share.
