They followed "a star" (perhaps Jupiter conjunct Saturn) to a specific geographic location, so they weren't just astrologers, they were Astro*Carto*Graphers

Hi Dale, it would be good to know if this or some similar story can be found in any prior mythology. Most of the Jesus story is a repeat, including the birth of "the son" around the solstice, the birth of "the sun." However, there is no way the Jesus figure could be a Capricorn. As presented in the story, he seems much more like a Pisces.

In Edgar Cayce’s “Story of Jesus” it is said there were multiple visits of groups of wise men at the time of the nativity, from Egypt, Persia and India, who drew on astrology, prophecy and psychic skills to come at that time to that place! Also, according to history podcast “Empire” episodes 212 & 213, “Magi” were Zoroastrian priests of a high order from Persia and the magi were renamed kings at a much later date. Hence The Three Kings stories.

thank you...that sounds about right...I prefer "sorcerers" to kings; the king thing is fairly obviously mythologizing. Yes, kings "from the mysterious east" -- street cred :-)
