i raised a son, i live with my daughter and grandson. Boys are often raised by mothers, and fathers. Nuturing them and supporting as they grow is fundamental. Yes we live within and are influenced by society, but with insight we can learn ourselves, and change the rules and roles. One person can help change the world.

Thank you Peony. Sadly, at least here in the United States, most boys are raised by women; and many women's advocates claim it's better that way. I am working on something else right now but this is demonstrable; many kids generally grow up without the steady presence of men, and too often men are decried as inherently bad people so it's good to keep them away.

The girls need fathers as much as the boys do, for different reasons. Anyone who says that children need a mother and a father can be accused (under current conditions) of being a "nuclear family Republican" and buying into "family values" and all of that, as if the concept of father is Republican or conservative.

To politicize this is a different disease, but in any event, humans at least require a mom and a dad and sadly, a great many of us don't get that. Many of the male teachers you hear me talk about were the result of my effort to have strong male and masculine influence in my life, which I was wise enough as a kid to seek out. Or perhaps it was pure instinct.
