That’s correct. Monsantos label which they submitted and EPA approved has not been changed since 1989. They have over 16 billion in law suits against them and a re scoped to release their new improved poison in 2028. Very telling why they’re seeking immunity now.
In my experience doing these stories, open-air exposure where the point source is covered is fine. The air would likely be at or slightly above the background level in Niagara Falls generally. So that's fine for short visits.
You start to run into problems with enclosed areas like inside contaminated homes, and then eating creatures where the toxins bioaccumulate and biomagnify, such as fish from Lake Ontario (where the toxins go after flowing into the Niagara River just to the south of the site). Check the map; the river is south of Frontier, and there's another dump site between Love Canal and the river called the 103rd St dump. The whole city is a mess.
I suspect the exposure at the scene of Love Canal is far less than breathing in the mist at Niagara Falls, which is about four miles to the east. But there will definitely be some toxins that grab onto dust in the air at Love Canal but they've had a long time to be washed away and dissipated. There is no means of concentration.
In any event from what I know about exposure patterns, you're pretty good if you're outside and there is not active smoke, smog, or contaminated fog or rainwater, or a lot of toxic dust getting churned up.
Now, the dormitory buildings at SUNY New Paltz — I conduct my business (sampling, short meeting) and get TF out.
the plant and animal wildlife is thriving. I know of no pathology studies on the animals however. If they stay away from streams a the far north end of the campus they are probably fine. there are still 200 homes up there and also some of the worst hot spots.
